Arthur sank back into his chair, a profound, overwhelming sense of peace washing over him. The war was finally over. His legacy was not his wealth, nor his company, nor the fear he had struck into his enemies. His legacy was sitting right in front of him.

“I am so incredibly proud of you, Lily,” Arthur whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “Your mother… Elena would be so incredibly proud.”

Arthur shook his head slowly. “No, my sweet girl. I just opened the door. You were the one who walked out of the dark.”

They sat together in the conservatory as the sun dipped below the hills, casting the room in a warm, golden twilight. There were no more monsters lurking in the shadows. There were no more threats hiding behind polite smiles. There was only the quiet, enduring strength of a family that had survived the fire, and the beautiful, unbroken life they had built from the ashes.
