“Emily, look at me,” Daniel commanded, his voice firm yet extraordinarily tender. He took her chin, careful not to touch the swollen skin, and forced her to meet his gaze. “You didn’t destroy anything. You saved my life. You saved me from binding myself to a monster. Do you understand me? I have spent three years looking for you after Dad died. Every investigator I hired hit dead ends. Why didn’t you reach out to me?”

Emily swallowed hard, her eyes glistening. “After the funeral… Margaret Vance came to my mother’s apartment. Before my mother passed away last winter. Margaret told us that if we ever tried to contact you, your family would sue us into oblivion for trying to extort Dad’s estate. She said you hated us. She said you viewed us as bastards who ruined your parents’ marriage.”

A terrible, suffocating fury flared in Daniel’s chest. His hands clenched into white-knuckled fists. His father’s second marriage had ended in an amicable divorce long ago, but Daniel had loved his half-sister dearly when they were children. He had never harbored an ounce of resentment. Margaret had intentionally severed their connection.

Before Daniel could speak, the heavy oak door of the suite clicked shut. Marcus walked in, locking the door behind him. Banqueting Director Julian Alvarez stood beside him, clutching a secure digital hard drive, looking utterly pale.

“Daniel,” Marcus said, his voice flat and dangerous. “Julian just pulled the closed-circuit security feeds from the VIP green room and the staging kitchen from forty-five minutes before the ceremony. Plus, one of the influencers Vanessa invited—that socialite Chloe—was live-streaming her ‘behind-the-scenes’ bride prep. Chloe’s phone caught what happened right outside the service corridor.”

“Put it on the screen,” Daniel ordered, rising to his feet.

Julian plugged the drive into the massive wall-mounted 4K monitor.

The screen flickered to life. The first clip was a high-resolution, wide-angle CCTV feed of the staging kitchen, timestamped 6:15 PM—forty-five minutes before Vanessa walked down the aisle.

On the screen, Margaret Vance was seen cornering the banquet supervisor. The audio was crystal clear via the kitchen’s omnidirectional security mics.

*”Where is the Hayes girl?”* Margaret’s recorded voice purred through the suite’s speakers. *”The girl on the roster. Emily Hayes.”*

The supervisor pointed toward the dishwashing station. Margaret sneered, sliding an envelope thick with hundred-dollar bills into the supervisor’s apron pocket.

*”Ensure she is assigned exclusively to Table Four and the bride’s promenade route. If she tries to swap tables, fire her immediately.”*

Emily gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. “She… she asked for me?”

“Keep watching,” Marcus whispered coldly.

Julian switched to the second video—a vertical smartphone video taken from Chloe’s Instagram Live archive. Chloe was laughing in the foreground, holding a glass of Prosecco, while in the background, near the arched doorway of the bridal dressing room, Vanessa and Margaret were standing close, completely unaware that Chloe’s phone microphone was picking up their conversation.

On the screen, Vanessa was practically vibrating with rage, her face twisted in an ugly snarl.

*”Are you sure it’s her, Mother?”* Vanessa’s voice hissed through the speakers.

*”I saw her uniform tag myself, Vanessa,”* Margaret replied with a cruel smirk. *”It’s Arthur Sterling’s little stray. She’s working the floor tonight.”*

*”That little bitch,”* Vanessa spat, pacing across the room, her veil swaying violently. *”Daniel still has his corporate lawyers searching for her. If he finds her before the ink dries on the marriage certificate, the clause in his father’s will activates! Arthur left thirty percent of the offshore shipping trusts directly to her, contingent on her being found and acknowledged before Daniel’s thirtieth birthday!”*

Daniel went entirely still. The air in the room felt as though it had dropped below freezing.

On the video, Vanessa stopped pacing and grabbed her mother’s hands.

*”If Daniel sees her, he’ll recognize her. We cannot let that happen,”* Vanessa whispered fiercely. *”I’m going to provoke her. I’ll make her look like an incompetent, thieving little rat in front of every board member in this city. I’ll slap her into the dirt, claim she threatened me, and have the hotel have her arrested for battery and grand destruction of property. With a criminal record and a restraining order, Daniel will never touch her. She’ll be blacklisted, sent to Rikers for the weekend, and by Monday, Daniel and I will be in Bora Bora with the merger finalized.”*

Margaret’s recorded laugh crackled through the speakers: *”Good girl. Ruin her. Make sure she leaves this hotel in handcuffs.”*

The video cut off.

The suite was dead silent, save for the hum of the air conditioning.

Daniel stood before the blank screen. His eyes were wide, dilated with a cold, predatory rage that made even Marcus take an involuntary half-step back.

It hadn’t been an accident. It hadn’t even been an impulsive act of cruelty.

It was a cold, premeditated conspiracy to destroy an innocent girl’s life to steal an inheritance.

Daniel turned slowly toward Marcus.

“Marcus.”

“I’m here, Daniel.”

“Call District Attorney Vance—no, scratch that, call the State Attorney General directly. Tell him I am pressing charges against Vanessa and Margaret Vance for felony assault, conspiracy, and extortion.” Daniel’s voice was as cold and sharp as cracked ice. “Then, call the private security detail at the front gates. Lock the ballroom doors. No one leaves.”

Daniel Ended His Wedding After Vanessa Humiliated Emily, Then One Guest’s Recording Revealed Why His Sister Had Been Targeted Earlier
Chapter 4 – The Predator’s Mask Slips

Downstairs, the St. Regis Grand Ballroom had descended into a gilded nightmare.

The three hundred guests, comprised of the city’s most influential power brokers, were trapped in a state of chaotic voyeurism. Waitstaff had abandoned their posts; half-eaten oysters and warm champagne sat melting on ice sculptures. Vanessa Vance sat on the steps of the flower-draped altar, her face smeared with mascara, screaming at her father, Richard Vance, who had just rushed down from the presidential suite.
