“*Damian!* How dare you—” Eleanor shrieked, clutching her burning cheek, shock draining the color from her face.
Damian didn’t utter a single syllable. His face was entirely devoid of human emotion, completely blank with homicidal precision. His right palm snapped forward, striking her across the opposite cheek with enough force to rupture the capillaries under her eyes. The sound echoed through the vaulted ceiling of the mansion like a whip crack. Eleanor stumbled, her designer heels buckling underneath her as she hit the floor beside the broken porcelain.
Damian turned his back on his mother without a second glance. Dropping to his knees, his entire demeanor fractured from ruthless executioner to a terrified man.
“Elena… baby, look at me,” he pleaded, his voice trembling violently as his hands hovered over her shaking frame. He gently scooped her into his arms, lifting her trembling, bruised body off the cold floor and placing her securely onto the cushioned leather banquette. “Where does it hurt? Did your stomach hit the counter? Talk to me!”
Elena clung to his lapels, sobbing hysterically, gasping for breath. “The baby… Damian, she pushed me… she tried to kill our baby…”
From the floor, Eleanor scrambled to her knees, spitting blood and saliva. Her manicured facade had completely disintegrated into pure, unadulterated madness. She pointed a trembling, ring-clad finger directly at Elena, her voice a screeching siren that brought the mansion’s terrified staff creeping toward the doorway.
“Look at what you’ve done, Damian! You strike your own mother for this trailer-trash whore?” Eleanor shrieked, her chest heaving. “She is a gold-digging cockroach! Tomorrow morning, she will be out on the street! I will disinherit you both! I am having security throw her onto the pavement where she belongs!”
Damian rose to his full six-foot-three height. The air in the kitchen seemed to plummet below freezing.
He didn’t yell. He didn’t argue. He turned around, his eyes locking onto Eleanor with predatory stillness.
Before Eleanor could push herself completely upright, Damian stepped forward. His polished leather dress shoe exploded into Eleanor’s ribs with the force of a sledgehammer. The wind left her lungs in a pathetic, wheezing gasp as she collapsed back onto the floor, clutching her torso. Damian drove another vicious kick into the side of her hip, shattering her remaining arrogance into terrified whimpers.
“You touch my wife again,” Damian whispered, his voice vibrating through the foundations of the room, “and I will erase you from the face of this earth.”
Gripping the collar of Eleanor’s pristine Chanel jacket, Damian dragged the matriarch across the kitchen floor. Eleanor clawed futilely at his forearms, shrieking in utter terror as her designer skirt dragged through the broken porcelain and spilled broth. Damian dragged her out of the kitchen, down the long marble corridor of the foyer, past the trembling housekeepers and the stone-faced butler, straight toward the towering double front doors.
Kicking the front door wide open into the pouring autumn rain, Damian shoved Eleanor violently across the threshold. The matriarch tumbled down the four wet granite steps, landing face-first in the muddy gravel of the circular driveway.
“Damian!” she screamed into the storm, drenched, bruised, and unrecognizable. “You cannot do this! This is *my* house!”
“This house is mine,” Damian said coldly, staring down at her through the sheets of rain. “And if your shadow so much as crosses the perimeter gates again, you will leave in a body bag.”
With a thunderous crash, Damian slammed the doors shut and turned the heavy iron deadbolt.

Chapter 2 – The Crimson Stain
The silence inside the foyer was suffocating, punctuated only by the distant drumming of rain against the reinforced glass and Elena’s shallow, ragged sobs drifting from the kitchen.
Damian turned back toward the hallway. His chest rose and fell in heavy, rhythmic surges. Four housekeepers and the head butler, Arthur, stood frozen against the wainscoted walls, their eyes wide with sheer terror. None of them had ever witnessed the calm, calculating CEO of Sterling Global lose his absolute composure.
“Arthur,” Damian commanded, his voice dead and metallic.
“Y-yes, Mr. Sterling?” the old butler stammered, stepping forward with his hands shaking at his sides.
“Call Dr. Vance. Tell him if he does not have a fully equipped mobile ultrasound unit in this kitchen within fifteen minutes, I will buy his hospital and burn his medical license to ash. Now.”
“Immediately, sir!” Arthur scrambled for the house phone.
Damian strode back into the kitchen. The scent of spilled herbs and blood hung thick in the air. Elena was curled in a defensive ball on the leather banquette, her face pale as parchment, one hand clutched fiercely over her lower abdomen. Her lower lip was swollen to twice its size, split open and crusted with blood, while a deep purple contusion bloomed across her cheekbone.
Damian dropped to his knees before her, gently peeling her hands away from her face. His knuckles were raw and split from the strikes he had delivered to his mother’s jaw.
“Look at me, Elena,” Damian whispered, his voice cracking with an agonizing mixture of fury and tenderness. “Are you cramping? Do you feel any sharp pains? Elena, please.”
“It… it feels tight, Damian,” she wept, her voice trembling like a dying candle. “When she shoved me, my back hit the island. I felt the shockwave through my spine. What if the placenta… what if the baby…”
“Don’t finish that sentence,” Damian ordered gently, resting his forehead against hers. He wiped a streak of blood from her mouth with the cuff of his thousand-dollar dress shirt, entirely indifferent to the crimson stain soaking into the fabric. “Our daughter is a fighter. You are a fighter. You are safe now. She is out. She will never step foot near you again.”
